Best Makeup for Acne Prone Skin

OK so for all us acne sufferers, we know that putting on makeup is a chore and that it can possibly lead to more breakouts. Yet we still attempt to put on some amount of makeup because we do not want to be walking around out and about like a red topping pizza face.

Here are some suggestions on what makeup to use for acne sufferers:

First of all, STAY AWAY from makeup products that are ‘comedogenic’ (pore cloggers). When buying makeup, always look for the label – ‘noncomedogenic’ (non pore cloggers). If in doubt, always check with the salesgirl, she should be able to tell you.

There are some products that may say ‘oil-free’ or ‘hypoallergenic’ or ‘dermatologist tested’ (may be for a skin allergy like eczema, not necessarily for acne), all of which sound like they may be good for acne prone skin BUT no don’t buy them, ONLY buy ‘noncomedogenic’ regardless of whoever tries to convince you otherwise.

So what makeup brands should you be looking at? Well during the course of my search, I found that quite a number of acne sufferers use M.A.C products saying that it provides fantastic coverage yet they are still prone to breakouts. Hmm…now we want great coverage and no breakouts. So I dug in more and found that mineral makeup is all the rage for acne sufferers because it’s ‘noncomedogenic’, has natural ingredients that help to heal the skin and best of all, provides great coverage. Yay!

Again with my search, I found that most mineral makeup lovers will say Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) is great for acne prone skin and I was going to recommend that as well UNTIL I dug in further about the brand and found that one of the key ingredients they use is ‘Bismuth Oxychloride’ which is a major irritant for the skin. So that’s a no then.

Here are two brands you should check out: Faerie Organic and Rejuva Minerals. If you’ve never heard of these brands, trust me I didn’t either but they are receiving quite abit of positive reviews on the net so it’s no harm trying.

One tip I can give is to ALWAYS order a sample first. Try Bare Escentuals too if you want because all skin types are different and what may work for me may not work for you and vice versa.
